P5 to P6 Maths: questions parents ask
What does P6 Maths teach in Term 1?
Fractions, Ratio, Percentage and Angles in Geometrical Figures. Term 1 starts on 4 January 2027. The P6 syllabus page lists every topic, term by term.
Which P5 topics should my child revise before P6?
P5 Fractions and Division, P5 Percentage, P5 Angles, P5 Properties of Triangles, and P5 Parallelogram, Rhombus and Trapezium. P6 Term 1 builds directly on them.
Is P6 Maths harder than P5?
It covers more. P6 adds 4 topics no earlier level teaches: Ratio, Circles, Algebra and Average. Its Term 1 topics take P5 work further, so a child secure in the P5 topics above starts on firm ground.
How should my child prepare for PSLE Maths in the P5 holidays?
Start with the P5 topics above, because P6 Term 1 builds straight on them. SEAB sets the PSLE on the whole primary Maths syllabus, so the paper format guide is worth reading before the year starts.
Does the PSLE Maths paper give a formula sheet?
No. Formulas have to be remembered. The P6 Maths cheat sheet lists every one, topic by topic, with a worked example.
