P3 to P4 Maths: what to revise before P4

The short version

Before P4, revise P3 Numbers to 10 000, Multiplication and Division, and Bar Graphs. P4 Maths in Singapore opens Term 1 with Numbers to 100 000, Factors and Multiples, Four Operations of Whole Numbers, and Tables and Line Graphs, which build on them. Leave the new P4 topics to school. Term 1 starts on 4 January 2027.

Which P3 topics should my child revise before P4?

P3 Numbers to 10 000, P3 Multiplication and Division, and P3 Bar Graphs. P4 Term 1 builds directly on them.

Is P4 Maths harder than P3?

It covers more. P4 adds 6 topics no earlier level teaches: Factors and Multiples, Rectangles and Squares, Decimals, Pie Charts, Nets, and Symmetry. Its Term 1 topics take P3 work further, so a child secure in the P3 topics above starts on firm ground.

How do I prepare my child for longer word problems in P4?

P4 problem sums often take more steps, and schools teach named methods for them, such as the bar model and working backwards. Each method page shows one worked question and the words that signal it.
