P2 to P3 Maths: what to revise before P3

The short version

Before P3, revise P2 Numbers to 1000, Addition and Subtraction within 1000, and Money. P3 Maths in Singapore opens Term 1 with Numbers to 10 000 and Money, which build on them. Leave the new P3 topics to school. Term 1 starts on 4 January 2027.

What does P3 Maths teach in Term 1?

Numbers to 10 000 and Money. Term 1 starts on 4 January 2027. The P3 syllabus page lists every topic, term by term.

Which P2 topics should my child revise before P3?

P2 Numbers to 1000, P2 Addition and Subtraction within 1000, and P2 Money. P3 Term 1 builds directly on them.

Is P3 Maths harder than P2?

It covers more. P3 adds 3 topics no earlier level teaches: Angles, Perpendicular and Parallel Lines, and Area and Perimeter. Its Term 1 topics take P2 work further, so a child secure in the P2 topics above starts on firm ground.

P3 is when many parents start tuition. Does my child need it?

Not by default. A child secure in the P2 topics above usually copes with P3 Term 1. The guide on whether your child needs tuition sets out the signs to look for.

How do I help my child with word problems before P3?
